FIRST LOOK VS. TRADITIONAL AISLE REVEAL

A question that all couples will need to ask themselves before their wedding day is whether or not they want to do a first look. As a wedding photographer based in Toronto, I have photographed countless couples that have both opted for a first look as well as gone the more traditional route. A first look offers quite a few benefits but also replaces the classic “walking down the aisle” first look. In order to make the best decision for you as a couple, there are some important considerations to keep in mind.

CONSIDER THE TIMELINE

One of the top benefits of doing a first look is the fact that you can save some valuable time. Wedding party photos can take time, and the ability to do them before the ceremony takes place, is a huge time-saver. If you opt to forego the first look, this is ultimately not a possibility, as you would end up seeing your partner before the aisle. Depending on the length of your ceremony and reception, saving time may not even be an issue you are concerned about. Either way, it is certainly a factor to consider.

SPECIAL MOMENT

When you see your partner for the first time walking down the aisle, you will ultimately be surrounded by all of your guests. These are people you love and value, so this is absolutely not a negative thing. That being said, a first look allows you to see each other for the first time in a very intimate and special setting. Just the two of you (and the photographer, of course) will be able to spend a few moments alone. These moments are hard to come by, and in my opinion, and makes for some of the most emotional images.

Ultimately, the choice is yours and yours alone. It is crucial not to let others’ opinions or personal experiences sway you. If seeing your partner for the first time walking down the aisle has always been a dream of yours, stick with it!
